What is Radio Compass?
Radio Compass is a fun way to discover radio stations from anywhere in the world — without creating an account or giving any personal information away. Simply point your device in any direction, choose how far you want to reach, and it will find the station nearest to that point. Your discovered stations are saved between visits (linked to your device). You can also see which stations are the most popular with other users.
How it works
- Your device's compass reads your heading and GPS reads your location.
- You set a range — from a few kilometres to across entire continents.
- Pressing ''Find Station'' projects a point on the map in the direction you are facing, at the distance you chose.
- The nearest known radio station to that point is returned, and a button is created so you can listen at any time.
- Your discovered stations are saved between visits.
Station data
Station listings are sourced from Radio Browser, a community-maintained, open database of internet radio stations. The list is refreshed once per day and filtered to stations with verified geographic coordinates and working stream URLs. Many thanks to those who contribute to Radio Browser, and to the station operators who make their broadcasts.
Privacy
A UUID is stored in your browser's local storage. It is used solely to restore your station buttons on return visits and to enforce fair-usage limits. No personal data is collected or shared. You can remove it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for this page.
Also available
Radio Compass is also available as an Android app. Search the Play Store for "Radio Compass" to find it.
Who and why does this exist?
Gareth Lawton (LinkedIn) created this as a fun project to experiment with prompting Claude Code using a PRD document.
